I assume we only want the widget version of the code and that the existing code should removed in favour of the widget version.

Sigg can you precise which issue you are refering to ? I can't find any issue on the the website refering to the google shopping cart.

I guess you talk about the Google Checkout : #1995

He referred to Google only inasmuch as they ran the GHOP programme. Don't worry about Google Checkout for now.

I think that Sig is referring to this: http://www.silverstripe.com/Cart-Widget/

Yeah. Soon widgets will be possible throughout SilverStripe? core and other modules, and this was to allow the shop cart to be a widget. GHOP was referred because the code is essentially done for us by a student already.

This might require the core change to allow widgets anywhere?

It doesn't *require* it, but the core change would certainly help. Eager community members have been making custom changes to their sites to enable widget use on all pages, where they need it.

As far as the e-commerce module is concerned, we should bundle the widget with the expectation that people will be able to make use of it. However, we should probably hold off on removing the existing shopping cart code until we have widgets on every page.

I would expect that widgets-on-every-page will be a 2.3 feature, and maybe a tutorial for 2.2.x users before then.
